OuR Mission

To facilitate winter sports opportunities for  individuals with disabilities through professional ski and snowboard education in a safe environment, which increases physical, social, and functional skills.

Who We Are

BASE is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides winter sports sessions to individuals with physical or cognitive challenges. We operate out of Boise, Idaho, and we facilitate our winter sports activities at Bogus Basin, a ski mountain just 16 miles up the road from Boise.

We are a 100% all volunteer run organization and are committed to providing top a quality snowsport experience. We are inspired each day by the commitment of our volunteers and the joy that snow sport recreation brings our participants.

OuR Vision

An inclusive mountain community where adaptive snow sports are accessible, accepted, and celebrated for all abilities.

What we do

BASE facilitates several ski and snowboard adaptive modalities, including stand-up sessions, sit-ski sessions, 3-track stand up sessions, 4-track stand up sessions, and more. We teach these sessions to individuals with physical or cognitive challenges and tailor our approach to the unique needs of each individual participant.

We use adaptive equipment, like sit-skis, bamboo poles, tip tethers, radio communication systems, and tetra-skis to teach individuals how to stay active and enjoy snow sports in a personalized way that complements their unique challenges and abilities.

What our participants say

  • Snowboarding is life. It is difficult to find someone that wants to pull me around on the mountain like you did all day. Having instructors that are volunteering and are eager to come out here on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to help people with disabilities, BASE is more inclusive than any other program I have been involved with. It's just a great group of people.

    — Zack

  • Being up here in the mountains is all that matters, and I have the most fun. My first session I just wanted to go fast. My day with BASE was fantastic, as usual. You couldn't ask for a better day.

    — Karin

  • I have been in this program for 3 years now and I learned how to ski after I became blind. I do more things being blind than I ever did sighted, and I'm 45 years old. BASE is awesome.

  • My vision has gotten worse since I last skied, but I am excited because I like to ski. The thought that I could continue would be great.

    — Sue

What our volunteers say

  • I absolutely love skiing. I especially like to teach people who have had acquired disabilities. When I got to learn to 3-track skiing after I lost my leg to cancer at 16, it blew my mind. That's why I've been in love with helping other people have that experience.

    — Becki

  • Volunteering with BASE has been the most rewarding and fun volunteer experience I have ever had. Coaching adaptive athlete's, supporting their goals, and helping build their confidence has been one the greatest joys of my life, and I have BASE to thank for that.

    — Ben

  • You see such big smiles, and it is so rewarding. It is a chance at freedom for our participants.

    — Tucker

  • I love it. It has been an amazing program, and I have met some awesome people and some awesome kiddos. It is really rewarding.

    — Holly

  • To be a professionally certified ski instructor and get to travel to other program and other states, like Colorado, is absolutely amazing. The rewards of this program are huge. It is about way more than skiing.

    — Anthony

  • It has helped me a lot personally. BASE lets people have the ability to do an outside sport, even if they have a disability. I have also loved the personalities that everyone has in this program. People are so willing to help each other.

    — Senon

  • Come up and ski with us and see what we are doing. I think you will be impressed, and you are going to love it.
